In April of 2019 I interviewed four people in my friends/family with five questions about their conceptions of love. All of the interviewees are Filipino and/or Filipino American students in their early twenties. They were invited to be as vague or detailed with their answers as they wanted, and to talk for whatever amount of time. None of the questions asked them to factor ethnicity into their answer, but some of the answers did.
The parallels and differences in these audio files are incredible to me, and say something, I feel, gorgeously specific about each individual as well as about the ways our sense of such a culturally valuable idea has formed in just two decades or so. I don't know what constants this implies about Filipino/Filipino American youth, or romantic love, or the people in my life, or people in their early twenties, but I appreciated listening. I hope you do too!
